Importance of Ongoing Research
Expanding the Science of Cannabis
We believe that producers and manufacturers have an important role to play in furthering clinical research. We are investing heavily in R&D for new products and formulations specially designed for medical patients. We have invested in studies that will uncover cannabinoid pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. These studies will aid in cannabinoid dosing for various therapeutic indications and patient subgroups.
We strive to uncover how cannabinoid-based medicines interact with the underlying physiology of the human body so that we can truly harness its benefits where the research supports its use.
We sponsored two pre-clinical studies:
Yang, Y.; Lewis, M. M.; Bello, A. M.; Wasilwski, E.; Clarke, H. A.; Kotra, L. P. Cannabis sativa (Hemp) seeds, Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol, and potential over dose. Cannabis Cannabinoid Res. 2017, 2(1), 274-281.
This study informed us that commercially available Hemp seeds potentially contain higher levels of Δ9-THC mainly due inconsistencies in processing due to the hull being incompletely removed from the seed and the seed being inadequately washed.
Lewis, M.M.; Yang, Y.; Wasilewski, E.; Clarke, H.A.; Kotra, L. P. Chemical profiling of medical cannabis extracts. ACS Omega 2017, 2(9), 6091-6103
This study informed us of the differences in extraction techniques and the changes that occur to the compounds in the cannabis plant when they are heated. It underscores the importance of consistency and reliability in cannabis extracts when used for therapeutic purposes.
Active Clinical Trials
With a commitment to understanding the applications of medical cannabis, Medisenol’s parent company, Scientus Pharma, is planning and conducting several clinical trials. Below is a summary of some of our most recent research.
Pharmaceutical Analysis of Therapeutic Cannabis for PTSD in the Clinic The aim of this study is to better understand how different cannabinoid ratios are associated with therapeutic effects in PTSD.
Profiling Cannabinoids Following Oral Administration of Cannabis Capsules In Healthy Volunteers This trial studies the pharmacokinetic cannabinoid profile of Scientus softgel capsules.
Chemical Analysis of Medical Cannabis Used for Chronic Pain This study looks at which combinations of cannabinoids are therapeutic for people with chronic pain.
As an organization committed to formal, peer-reviewed scientific research on medical cannabis, we stand behind our research. Contact us to learn more about our active studies, or if you’re interested in becoming an investigator or partner.
